SALUNGGUHIT

By Flon Faurillo / Bulatlat

Hand of Steel

Philippine elections have been marred by violence for decades. But the May 2007 is expected to spill more blood with the anticipation that government’s repressive campaign against Bayan Muna (BM), Anakpawis (AP) and Gabriela Women’s Party (GWP) would escalate to prevent these progressive parties from garnering congressional seats. President Gloria M. Arroyo has pledged to use the “hand of steel” against “terrorists” as Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno joins the fray by his ejection orders against opposition local executives.

Salungguhit literally means to underline; figuratively, to underscore or highlight.
