PHOTO OF THE WEEK

At Play, Unknowingly

Andrei, 5, appeared very much at peace when caught by Bulatlat’s camera on the shoreline of Binuangan Strait in Salambaw village, Obando, Bulacan (16 kms north of Manila). In his hand he holds an improvised toy boat, made of styropor from the nearby Navotas Controlled Disposal Facility (NCDF). Everyday, two barges filled with garbage pass through the Binuangan Strait on the way to the NCDF, polluting the river and leaving a trail of foul smell. As his elder townmates fight for the dump’s closure, Andrei plays on the shoreline – oblivious of the hazards nearby.
