LEADER OF THE BAND

The blind musicians we see on the streets of Manila are usually guitarists. But this man, photographed last December at the Makati commercial center, plays the drum — which is most unusual and undoubtedly harder for someone in his condition. It is unfortunate that such talent is restricted to playing for donations, having no place on the mainstream stage on which, incredibly, one can make it big simply by singing seemingly endless monotones with repetitious lyrics.
