Alejandro Santos's new book challenges conventional view of the world and
globalization and gives its readers an exciting and productive intellectual

Center for Philippine Studies in conjunction with Philippine Science High School
batch '71 and classmates of the author of the book being launched held a
well-attended and successful forum and book launching entitled,
"Globalization And Third World Poverty" last Oct. 4 at the UCLA
Downtown Labor Center, Los Angeles, California. The
center point of the discussion were cases against globalization and third world
exploitation as discussed in the book, Crime Of Empire: A Case Against
Globalization and Third World Poverty as a World System, authored by Ricco
Alejandro M. Santos. The
book challenges conventional view of the world and globalization and gives its
readers an exciting and productive intellectual opportunity to sharpen one's
analysis and perspective on today's burning global issues. The
forum cum book launching was also highlighted by a power point presentation of
Crime of Empire and a panel discussion with Carol Almeda of
Migrante International and Paula Solomon of UCLA Labor Center as panelists. A
video greeting by author Santos was also shown. Santos
also wrote Beyond the Surface:
A Theoretical
Framework for the Analysis of Modes of Production in the Philippines, a political-economic
study published in Davao City (Philippines) in 1990.
A
research consultant for a number of non-government organizations, Santos
designed a mode of production survey for Moro and non-Moro areas in Mindanao in
1986-1988, covering more than 1,200 respondent households.
