BITTER LIFE
Life is bitter indeed for this Negros sugar worker who carries a heavy load, literally and figuratively. The third quarter of the year is the time when plantations are idle -- known in the sugar industry as "tiempo muerto" or dead season -- and the poor find it hard to get a job. They thus accept whatever job is available in order to have something to feed their families.
