Overseas Filipino workers and Filipino immigrants in different parts of the world added their voices in denouncing the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB).

In Sydney, a delegation from Migrante Australia (NSW) presents a statement to Consul Melanie Diano at the Philippine Consulate Sydney. The statement iterates that the real heroes are those who fought against the Marcos dictatorship and those continuing to fight Marcos' legacy of corruption, foreign debt, the US military presence; the overseas Filipino workers whose blood, sweat and tears (their remittances) fuel the Philippine economy; and those who are tirelessly working for peace, giving peace a chance.

In a statement, Migrante International maintained that Marcos is not a hero. “The real heroes are our ‘bagong bayani’ who continue to bear the brunt of Marcos’ labor export policy that continues to exploit our OFWs’ cheap labor, separate us from our loved ones and place us in dire and dangerous conditions,” the group said.

Migrante International called on President Rodrigo Duterte to end to his alliance with the Marcoses. “His alliance with the Marcoses is a poisonous pact that can and will isolate him from the people, especially from our OFWs and their families for whom he has promised a ‘better Philippines.'”
