“The search warrant only adds more insult to the injury inflicted by the government to the starving farmers. Why they are being searched? They are not the violent rousers, it’s the police who started the dispersal upon the order of Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza.”

MANILA – Anakpawis party-list Rep. Fernando Hicap decried this morning’s serving of a search warrant by police at the Spottswood Methodist Center compound in Kidapawan City, calling it a “cover-up” of the bloody dispersal which killed three farmers yesterday.

Some 500 police and military men entered the Methodist compound, where some 5,000 farmers have retreated following the bloody dispersal. The police claimed to be looking for firearms, based on a warrant issued by Kidapawan Regional Trial Court Branch 17 Judge Arvin Sadiri Balagot. The search yielded nothing.

“The search warrant only adds more insult to the injury inflicted by the government to the starving farmers. Why they are being searched? They are not the violent rousers, it’s the police who started the dispersal upon the order of Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza,” Hicap said.

“This is a clear case of harassment aimed to pass the blame to the victims and cover up the butchery committed by the PNP backed by the yellow government of Lala Mendoza…We blame the Aquino government for its utter failure to create mechanisms to aid dry spell affected farmers in the province,” Hicap said.
