Not retaliatory attack but for ‘revolutionary justice’ – NPA

Because the reactionary civilian government and the AFP continue to turn a blind eye over the private army build-up of Mayor Joselito Brillantes, the revolutionary people’s government has made it its mandate and duty to disarm the municipal mayor and execute justice on behalf of the families of the victims of his atrocities.

Rigoberto F. Sanchez, spokesman for New Peoples’ Army’s Southern Mindanao Regional Command, clarified in a statement emailed to the media April 19 that their raid of the armory of Monkayo Mayor Joselito Brillantes Jr. last April 14 was “an execution of revolutionary justice” and not a mere retaliatory attack.

On April 14, NPA fighters operating in Compostela Valley, North Davao and South Agusan, all in Mindanao, staged a two-and a-half-hour armory raid of the so-called JB Palace or JB Malacañang in Olaycon, Monkayo. It is said to be owned by Monkayo Mayor Brillantes.

Sanchez said the NPA disarmed Brillantes’ private army and “goons” and the elements of the state troops’ 25th IB guarding and surrounding the place. He said the raid produced 74 confiscated firearms, one binocular scope, 5 radio vhf and a rifle vest, 36 pieces rifle grenade, 52 pieces 40mm, 800 rounds K3, 500 rounds AK47, 5,000 rounds of M60, 400 rounds of ultimax drum, and more than 14,000 rounds of assorted ammunitions. These will now “equip newly formed additional full fighting NPA platoons to serve the basic masses truly and genuinely,” Sanchez said.

The NPA spokesman highlighted the “obviously unjustified and supposedly” banned by the government’s heavy volume of firearms and ammunition under one town mayor. He said these were used by Brillantes’ “goons and private army” in “lording over ordinary farmers, residents who eke out a living by cutting logs, and mining workers.”

Because the reactionary civilian government and the AFP continue to turn a blind eye over the private army build-up of Brillantes, the revolutionary people’s government has made it its mandate and duty to disarm the municipal mayor and execute justice on behalf of the families of the victims of his atrocities, the NPA spokesman in Southern Mindanao said.
