MANILA — “The Philippine rich did not get richer simply because of the boom in the stock market. They have President Aquino’s anti-labor policies to thank for their increased wealth,” claimed GWP Rep. Emmi De Jesus today in the light of the newly released Forbes magazine listing.

The magazine reports 40 Filipino tycoons richer this year than in 2010, adding that the Philippines’ richest are collectively worth $34 billion, up from last year’s $22.8 billion.

“President Aquino was quick to hide behind the skirts of the regional wage boards by refusing to push for a legislation-mandated wage hike of P125 across-the-board. Instead, he offered a measly P22 e-COLA for the workers. It comes as no surprise that the anti-poor economic policies and programs laid down by the Aquino administration benefited only the rich,” declared the Gabriela solon.

“In the upcoming SONA on July 25, President Aquino will not have a face to show our multitude of Filipino workers who are jobless, underemployed, and suffer from very depressed wages amid the unabated price hikes of basic necessities and prime commodities. In the face of all these economic hardships, it is the women who bang their heads against the wall thinking of various ways to feed their children and send them to school,” Rep. De Jesus added.

“He has been unmasked, and we do not need to wait for the SONA to affirm that President Aquino is an anti-worker President,” ended Rep. De Jesus.
