Led by the workers union Bagong Pagkakaisa ng mga Manggagawa sa Triumph International (BPMTI), the Bantay Pabrika started last May 28, 2009, due to threats that the Triumph management will re-export raw materials to Vietnam and China, which may result in massive layoffs and the eventual closing of the factory. On June 10 at around 7 a.m., some 30 masked goons, believed to be from the FTI administration, dispersed the workers’ peaceful picket line and stole some of their equipment to preempt the ongoing monitoring of their warehouse.
