Ka Bel

Trabaho

Bata pa si Pin
Marunong nang magtrabaho—
Magtanim ng kamote,
Manghuli ng isda,
Magluto,
Maghugas ng pinggan,
Mag-alaga ng mga kapatid.
Ang batang si Pin
Sa usapan ng matatanda’y
Mahilig makinig.
Panahon ng Hapon,
Ang diyes anyos na Pin
Kumilos na kuryer
Ng mga gerilya.

Kumusta na ang mga bata ngayon?

Ang binatilyong si Pin
Nag-enrol sa hayskul.
Nagtrabaho bilang labandero,
Nag-alaga ng baboy at manok
Para mabuhay at makapag-aral.

Kumusta na ang mga binatilyo ngayon?

Ang binatang si Pin,
Taga-Bikol ay nagpa-Maynila.
Nagtrabaho bilang gasoline boy,
Washer boy, grease boy,
Tagabusisi ng makina.
Ang binatang malinis sa pananamit,
Ngayo’y nakakamisetang gulagulanit,
Amoy grasa’t usok ng tambutso.
Masipag, walang reklamo,

Maraming kaibigang kapwa manggagawa
Na ang tawag sa kanya’y Crispin.

Kumusta na ang mga binata ngayon?

Mula bata hanggang pagtanda,
Hindi tinalikuran ni Ka Bel ang kanyang uri.
Ito ang kanyang pinagmulan,
Ang kagalingan ng uring anakpawis
Ang kanyang ipinaglaban.
Hanggang sa huling sandali,
Siya’y manggagawa.
May kongresman bang naglilinis ng bubong?

Kumusta na ang matatandang
Kasing-hangal ni Ka Bel?

2.

Welga

Masaya sa Maynila
Ang taxi driver na si Crispin.
Nagagalugad ang lahat ng sulok ng syudad,
Iba’t ibang klaseng pasahero ang nakakausap,
Maraming kaibigang drayber
Ka-good time-man sa Quiapo.
Pogpog na taxi’y napapaandar din.
Maliit man ang kita’y
Nakapagpapadala kahit paano sa probinsya.
Si Crispi’y myembro ng unyong
Kontrolado ng kapitalista,
Magreklamo’y tanggal agad sa trabaho.
Kaya’t siya’y lumipat sa unyong
Maka-manggagawa.
At siya’y napasabak sa welga,
Ang kauna-unahan niyang
Madugong welga.
Nilusob ng pulis at armadong maton,
Tatlong welgista sa harap niya’y nabuwal.
Ito ang simula ng habang-buhay

Na edukasyon ni Crispin
Tungkol sa unyonismo,
Sa dilawan at tunay na unyon,
Sa sabwatan ng naghaharing uri
Laban sa interes ng mga manggagawa,
Sa relasyon ng unyonismo at pulitika.
Buong-panahong kumilos
Sa pag-oorganisa ng mga unyon
At pamumuno sa pederasyon
Habang binubuhay ang pamilya
Sa isang kahig, isang tuka.

3.

Ang Pagsilang ng ‘Ka Bel’

Naghahanap si Crispin ng direksyon.
Kanin at isda lamang ba
Ang ipinaglalaban ng unyon?
Paiipit ba sa ligalismo
Ang lakas-paggawa?
Nasaan ang tunay, ang makabayan,
Ang palabang unyon?
Paano, paano, paano
Ang pagsapi sa kilusan?

At sinunod ang payo
Ng matandang rebolusyonaryong
Cesar Lacara.
Sabi: “Basta gumawa ka ng mabuti
Para sa masa,
Mabuhay at makibaka kasama nila.
Gawin mong pangunahin
Ang pagsusulong sa interes
Ng anakpawis.”

Si Ka Che ang unang tumawag
Kay Pin, kay Crispin,
Ng Ka Bel.
May pangalan
Ang direksyon.
