As reaction to the growing clamor for the removal of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from office, the administration camp has been painting Metro Manila and the provinces with pro-Arroyo streamers and posters. The proliferation of propaganda paraphernalia is meant to dissuade people from supporting anti-administration rallies as these will hurt the economy and are just designed for power grab by small groups. The costly paraphernalia could be part of what critics say is the use of government resources by the president’s supporters mainly to save Arroyo. However, the hungry masses – the people most severely victimized by the policies of the Macapagal-Arroyo administration – are not buying this propaganda tactic of the regime. They know that the removal of an administration that has plunged them into more and more hunger is in their immediate best interests.
Salungguhit literally means to underline; figuratively, to underscore or highlight.
